VMFA presents Teen Caffeine Café, Happening: Improv. During a night of theatrics, art making, zine distribution, and refreshments; middle- and high-school students will present the art of Italian Improv theatre none as commedia dell’arte. Teen Caffeine Café’s are FREE and open to the public. Teen Caffeine Café’s Happening: Improv has been generously sponsored by The Council of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.

VMFA presents Teen Caffeine Café featuring the creative fashion exhibition Stylin’: Inspired. In an evening of music, art making, gallery tours, and refreshment middle- and high-school Stylin’ designers unveiled wearable art on the café runway. Teen Caffeine Café’s are FREE and open to the public. Teen Caffeine Café’s runway exhibition Stylin’: Inspired has been generously sponsored by The Council of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.

VMFA’s Teen Advisory Council presented the runway exhibition Stylin, Guess Who? in VMFA’s Marble Hall and Galleries. Middle and High School Stylin’ Designers unveiled wearable art in connection with the VMFA exhibition LOOK HERE: Mystery. Parents, students, teachers and friends enjoyed an evening of dance, music, art making, gallery tours and refreshments. This event was free and open to the community.

VMFA’s Teen Advisory Council presented Teen Caffeine Café in VMFA’s Marble Hall and Galleries. Guests received a free copy of Teen Zine: 360°, a mini-magazine created by local Middle and High School Students. Teen Zine: Big Screen featured teen zine artwork through a projection exhibition. Festivities included dance, music, zine making, poetry reading, teen led gallery tours, free coffee and refreshments.

Over 400 parents, teachers and teens enjoyed complimentary refreshments, bottomless coffee, Gallery Tours of teen selected VMFA artwork, a dazzling art activity, poetry reading and an incredible teen exhibition of wearable artwork.

VMFA’s Teen Advisory Council presented the collaborative student exhibition Teen Zine 2006: Visual Tapas in the Marble Hall and galleries from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Local middle and high-school students distributed an appetizer-sized publication featuring an innovative combination of writing, drawing, photography and collage.

VMFA’s Teen Advisory Council presented the mixed media exhibition Bling Bling: Objects of Opulence by Metropolitan Richmond Teens featuring painting, prints, drawings and sculpture by middle and high school students. Musical guests Zero Hour and DJ Dylan performed live for an enthusiastic crowd of 150 peers, parents and teachers.

Scholarship Information

Thank you for your interest in youth programs at VMFA. Scholarships to attend Studio Classes for Youth and Teens are based on financial need and are available on a limited basis to students ages 5-17. Scholarships are valid for one class; requests for specific classes will be considered but can not be guaranteed. Scholarships will be awarded based on available funding. Scholarship application information is confidential and used only for scholarship criteria evaluation. All scholarship applications are due to VMFA for consideration three weeks in advance of the start of the requested class. To apply please print, fill out, and mail or fax this scholarship application form.

Standards of Learning
The Standards of Learning for Virginia Public Schools describe the commonwealth's expectations for student learning and achievement in grades K-12 in English, mathematics, science, history/social science, technology, the fine arts, foreign language, health and physical education, and driver education.

These standards represent a broad consensus of what parents, classroom teachers, school administrators, academics, and business and community leaders believe schools should teach and students should learn.

VMFA Teen Studio Instructors design gallery-based instruction emphasizing SOL achievement. A complete listing of the Standards of Learning is available online.






VMFA’s Compliance with Code of Virginia 22.1-296

Enacted in 2006, Section 22.1-296.1 of the Code of Virginia requires that all persons who provide services to school children during school sponsored activities and have direct contact with students certify that 1) the individual has not been convicted of a felony or any offense involving the sexual molestation or physical or sexual abuse or rape of a child; and indicate 2) whether the individual has been convicted of a crime of moral turpitude.
